Paper planes!!!

I am so impressed with my kiddos on this project!!! The students did such a wonderful job and they were proud of their own work!!! Here are just a few (I will post more soon) of the amazing paper planes. They look so realistic that a few younger students came into my classroom and saw one of these examples on the table and tried grabbing the plane off the paper and were totally surprised that they we're drawn! These were completed using white card stock, pencil, ruler and red and blue colored pencil.

Fall still life

This post is a bit late but these pumpkins turned out so beautiful! 8th grade Students were studying value using pencil and colored pencil.  Since it was fall, I set up a still life (using my document camera) and mini pumpkins and gourds. They were asked to divide the paper into 4 sections any way they chose. Next, they drew the still life lightly in pencil and then began shading!! We really tried to work on shading craftsmanship and I think they did a phenomenal job!

Happy Value Day!!

I wore my value shirt and created this necklace and
wished students a Happy Value Day!!
This week our 8th graders studied value and form.  First, we had a guest artist show us his wonderful photo realistic drawings to show the students how to use value in a drawing and techniques that help create this look. It was so nice of him to take his time to show the students!!  THANK YOU!!  Next,  we watched our presentation on value and form...http://prezi.com/9abyiid7rk_v/edit/#5_1887690 .

After discussing how to create a form by adding value, we were ready to draw.  Students were asked to draw fruit using value.  I wanted students to use different materials and was excited when I found an example of this project on Pinterest.  This project allowed us to use charcoal, pencil and colored pencil.  I used my amazing document camera (with light) so students could see the still life... isn't technology cool???  Students used charcoal on the newspaper, ebony pencils on the paper and colored pencil on the brown paper.

COLOR!!

8th graders are working on learning each of the elements of art! We are working on COLOR!!! First we drew a color wheel and discussed different color families.  After I was confident that the students were familiar with the basic color families we were ready to move on to the next color assignment and we were HUNGRY!!! We used vanilla icing, vanilla wafers and food coloring to make an edible color wheel!! Student were asked to mix all the colors for the primary and secondary colors.   They also had to complete the color wheel and get it approved by me before they could eat.  Next, we started our symmetrical color design project.  We learned 8 different color families/schemes... primary, secondary, intermediate, tints, shades, neutrals, warm and cool!!! After designing our pattern we used tempera paint.  Lastly, we used sharpie markers to clean up our lines. Great Job!!
